I’ve pushed an update to the Better AdSense Targeting plugin for WordPress. Version 1.1 has been pushed to the WordPress Plugin Repository. This is a maintenance update to help improve your experience and results. As noted below, I did remove the option to target or ignore the ‘comments section’ due to the ability to accurately identify the comments loop 100% of the time. I hope to have a better way of doing this in the future. In this update are the following:
- Corrected issue when the loop is entered in the sidebar
- Now using the Shortcode API for the and tags in posts
- Removed option for Comments as there is not valid way to know the start/end of comments loop yet
- Added check for W3 Total Cache and warn to allow comments when minifying

It’s not secret, I have Google’s AdSense on my site. What, a guy has gotta make a buck. The issue is, your stats will look really misleading in the AdSense interface because every time you view the site, you’ll get an impression logged of your ads. Currently I am using the ‘AdSense Manager‘ plugin by Mutube to manage and show my ads, as well as my ‘Better AdSense Targeting‘ plugin to help dial in the ad accuracy. With 2 lines of code, we can only show ads to non-logged in users. This means that you won’t be shown your own ads when logged in.

I’ve updated the Better AdSense Targeting plugin to allow users to specify in-line post content that should be ignored using the and tags. An example would be like the following:
I would like this to not be ignored content. I think it’s relevant to my topic.
This however isn’t necessarily relevant, is an analogy, or contains some keywords I’d rather not have used when determining my ads
But this I would like to have included…
What the plugin will do is replace the tags with the proper HTML to notify Google’s AdSense to ignore it. The rest of the plugin works as it has been, this is the only update but will allow users to fine tune their ad results.
It’s available now via WordPress.org or your WordPress Admin area. Comments are closed on this post, however if you have any issues please comment over at the Better AdSense Targeting plugin page.
Today I’m releasing the initial version of a new plugin called ‘Better AdSense Targeting’. If you have ever noticed AdSense ads that come up for things totally unrelated to your content? Yeah, that happened to me too. A little secret is that Google has some comments you can put in your site to either use or ignore sections of your page when determine what ads to display. This plugin takes all the work out of that for you and allows you to choose which sections to use.
Check it out at the Better AdSense Targeting page. Let me know what you think in the comments.
